But we’ve hit a pivot point. Sam Richman highlights that we are now engineering systems to think better than we do, meaning we are designing them to be unpredictable. Developers want Claude Code, Codex, and custom agents in their workflows. Security teams want audit trails, network controls, and no credential sprawl. On hardened Kubernetes clusters, those two needs have been hard to reconcile. Coder on Red Hat OpenShift closes that gap. AI Gateway centralizes model access and prompt audit trails. Agent Firewall enforces process-level domain allowlists without elevated permissions. And Coder Agents keeps the entire agent loop in the control plane, so provider credentials never touch the workspace. No custom SCCs. No privileged containers. Platform engineering and governance teams are struggling to keep up. That gap is causing real friction inside enterprises right now. "It was speeding up with the developer and there was slowing down on the platform. And it's causing a bit of a rift with a lot of companies right now." Simon Gregory at the UST AI Innovation Forum on the tension between developer velocity and governance readiness. The challenge isn't the developers' work. Suddenly the accountability goes from the human who had access to a tool and a set of guidelines to perhaps no accountability whatsoever." Simon Gregory, Coder's Head of Alliances International, on why AI code governance starts at the infrastructure layer. When agents write code autonomously, the old model of human accountability breaks down. The fix isn't adding more policy docs. It's bringing development workspaces in-house, centrally managed, so every agent action is logged, bounded, and traceable. Credentials, running processes, debugging state, all tied to a personal account that IT is scrambling to deprovision. Coder 2.32 changes that. Policy-controlled multi-user access is now GA. Workspaces can be owned by service accounts, shared across teams, and audited at every access point. No credential sharing. No rebuilding state because someone's out on PTO or left the company. Production is down. The only engineer who knows the system is asleep. So someone shares SSH keys over Slack, and now you have a compliance problem on top of an incident. Shared Workspaces in Coder removes that entire failure mode. Multiple users access the same running workspace, authenticated with their own Coder credentials, every session logged.
